This week we trained with the one and only two time world cup winners and pride of the nation The Springboks. When an opportunity such as this presented itself to us an academy, we didn’t blink twice to jump at the opportunity to train with and against Bokke. With every boys’ aspiring dreams and goals to eventually play at the highest level and represent their country being at the pinnacle of their hearts; this truly was the uniquest and fastest ways that they got to experience what it would be like to be a “Bok for a day”.
The sessions were better than we could have ever imagined and we got the chance to work alongside the coaching staff as well as the players and learn some exciting new tricks of the trade. From the moment the boys trained with the Boks they got to experience the intensity of an international athlete and what he brings to a session; and how they approach different scenarios. It was eye-opener for most boys and a learning curve for the better. You don’t get much better than Etzebeth and Beast double teaming you in a tackle and surviving the hit! The Boks got to really push the boys to their limits and we were more than happy to watch the likes of Matfield run the lineouts, Steyn run the plays and even a sneaky sidestep from Cornal Hendricks.
We are extremely proud of how the boys handled the intensity and skill level of the 3 days and a lot of them really worked hard to put the kind of quality out on the field which we hold so high at the WPRA. This will be a major highlight in our year and possibly for the rest of our history.
